Autumn Season In India May 2026

Then, as the effigies of the Goddess are immersed in the Hooghly River, a quieter, more reflective mood takes over. This leads to the other great autumn festival: , the festival of lights.

In Bengal, autumn is synonymous with the arrival of the Goddess Durga. The sharodiya sky—the autumn sky—becomes a canopy for celebration. The clouds are cotton-white, fluffy, and impossibly high. The sunsets are not dramatic but soft, painting the horizon in shades of saffron and magenta. For five days, the rhythm of life changes. One morning, you step outside, and something is different. The air is no longer heavy with humidity. It feels light, almost buoyant.
