Alex hit pause. The video froze on the empty office. He sat back, heart thudding.
Alex checked the file properties. Runtime: 47 minutes. Resolution: 1920x1080. Bitrate: unusually high. Creation date: January 1, 1970. That made no sense—HEVC wasn’t standardized until 2013.

Alex looked over his shoulder. His own desk lamp was on. Alex hit pause
“They don’t tell you this in the history books,” he whispered. “But every leader who lasted more than a year… they listened. And the voice told them what to do. Taxes. Wars. Who to trust. Who to kill.”
He hadn’t turned it on.
The folder was buried deep in an external drive labeled "ARCHIVE 2012—DO NOT FORMAT." Alex had bought the drive at a flea market last summer, hoping for old photos or forgotten MP3s. Instead, there was only this—one episode of a show he’d never heard of. El Presidente . Season 1, Episode 5. Encoded in HEVC, which meant someone had cared about quality.
