For decades, Hallam was known as the unassuming service centre of Melbourne’s south-east—home to a major rail freight terminal, light industrial estates, and the bustling Hallam Road. But a wave of major infrastructure investment is rapidly transforming the suburb into a model for modern, connected growth.

Three projects, in particular, are reshaping the suburb’s present and future. The centerpiece of the area’s transformation has been the Hallam Road Upgrade . Previously, the intersection of Hallam Road and the South Gippsland Freeway (M420) was a notorious bottleneck, struggling to handle the tens of thousands of vehicles used daily by commuters and freight trucks heading to the nearby Dandenong South industrial zone.
