Meemaw finally blurts out: “Fine! I won $1,500 on a scratch-off, and I’m not giving a dime to the church roof fund!”
Mary storms out, humiliated. Mary is furious at Meemaw — not for the gambling, but for the lying and the public scene. Sheldon listens from the stairs. He notices she avoids eye contact when anyone mentions “extra money.” He asks directly: “Meemaw, have you acquired a sum of money through morally dubious means?” Mary nearly chokes on her meatloaf. Meemaw offers to give $200 to the church roof fund. Mary says $300. They settle on $250. Meemaw mutters: “Should’ve bought a chimichanga instead.” Sheldon gets a package in the mail. It’s a used laptop — not new, but upgraded. The card reads: “From Meemaw. Don’t tell your mother I spent $400. And don’t calculate the depreciation.”
